King's Dominion

Kings Dominion is located in Doswell Virginia. This park opened in 1975, and started out with just 15 rides. To get its name, they took the word King from the company that built it, Kings Entertainment Company, and then they go Dominion because it was a reference to Virginia’s nickname the “old Dominion.”
Within this park you can find many different rides, shows, shops, restaurants, and attractions. All of these items are located in at least one of the parks 6 themed sections.  These sections are called: International Street, Old Virginia, The Grove, Planet Snoopy, Congo and Water Works.  A majority of the shops and a few different shows can be found on International Street. Perhaps the most unique thing in this sections is the Effel Tower which is a replica that is 1/3 the size of the original. In the Old Virgina you can find a variety of rides. These include water rides, wooden roller coasters, and ones that are geared more towards the whole family. The Grove is the largest themed section in the park and home to a majority of the thrill rides. Most of the younger kids’ favorite part of the park is Planet Snoopy. Here they can interact with the Peanuts crew and enjoy rides and games that were made specifically for them! The Congo section is basically an African-themed section. This section is full of rides including some of the theme parks most technologically innovative ones.  The last section known as Water Works, is much different than the other ones since everything here is base around water. This section includes a lazy river, a wave pool, numerous slides, and splash house for kids.
You can buy tickets for this park at a price of $42.99 for those 48” and taller and $34.99 for those under 48” or over the age of 62. For more information you can visit the parks website.

Michigan's Adventure

Michigan’s Adventure is located in Muskegon County, Michigan. When the park originally opened, in 1956, it was actually a petting zoo called Deer Park. It was later purchased and the owner began selling off the deer and replacing them with attractions. The park started off with carnival rides and finally worked its way up to a roller coaster in 1979. A second coaster was added in 1988, and this is when the name changed to Michigan’s Adventure. A water park was added in 1991, called Wildwater Adventure.  Today, this is currently the largest amusement park in Michigan.
On the amusement park side there are now7 roller coasters and the park continues to have numerous carnival rides, similar to what they started out with. Here you can find rides for all ages and different preferences.
The water park side, Wild Water Adventure is even more fun than the amusement side. To me, they have more to offer.  Here you can find two wave pools, multiple slides, a lazy river, a children’s play area, and a brand new attraction known as Beach Party. This is a multilevel unit that will include over 150 water features, like 8 water slides, a giant geyser that blasts out water and much more. People of all ages will be able to enjoy just this attraction alone!
This park is known for its 2 for 1 ticket deals meaning that you get to visit both parks for the low price of $26 and 2 and under are free. If you would like to find out more about this park visit its website.

Frontier City

Frontier City is located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This western-themed park started out in 1958 and is currently the only themed park left in the whole state.
As far as rides go, this park currently has 4 big roller coasters, 10 thrill rides, 6 kid’s rides, and 2 water rides.
This year the park will be offering 6 different live shows including: Opening Show, Bob the Builder Live, It’s Magic, The Wild West Gunfighter Stunt Show, Red Hot Country and The Rainmaker. The Opening Show will begin every morning on Main Street to start off the day. The show will be upbeat and feature dancers and singers in the street. Bob the Builder live is the only show that they offer that is specifically geared towards kids. During the show Bob along with 2 of his crew members and some help for the audience here and there will feature singing, dancing, and building! In It’s Magic, David Thomas is coming back from last year’s show that was voted best magic show at an amusement park. Here you won’t be able to believe your eyes as you witness the latest illusions. During The Wild West Gunfighter Stunt Show, you will be able to see this crazy cast duke it out and dual it out old west style. If you go to the Red Hot Country show you will be able to hear some of your favorite country songs sung by some very talented performers. The Rainmaker is a comical act. Here you will be able to see just what this salesman is up to next. Not one of these shows is similar to the other, so there is a good chance that you will be able to find something that you will enjoy!

The Beginning...

This is my first blog that I have ever done. In my Accounting 255 class we were told that we have to have at least 40 articles and 8 different articles on a topic. To me this sounds like it is going to be a huge challenge as I do not even like to write. Hopefully it doesn’t end up as bad as it seems. My articles will not be on my blog though so if you want to check them out you will have to go to my website at http://excitingparks4u.webs.com/. I am new at this whole website thing as well, so bare with me. In time I think that I will get the hang of this and both my website and my blog should start to look better.
I decided to do my topic on different types of parks. I have always enjoyed going to different types of parks and I figured that there are well over 40 parks across the United States that I could find to write about.  My goal for right now is to stick with parks that not EVERYONE knows about. This means that I will not, I repeat will not be writing about parks like Disney or Universal Studios.
In each of my blogs I will mostly talk about either theme parks, amusement parks, or water parks.  I will start by stating where the park is and giving some background information about each of the parks. I will then talk about the attractions at each of the parks and what draws people to them. I may point out some of the unique rides, shows, crafts or even foods that the park has to offer. Finally, I will end with how much it costs to get into the park.
